PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical projector maintaining space saving and also thermally protecting an optical system or an optical member. SOLUTION: The projector has a light source part, an illumination optical system illuminating an optical modulation element with light from the light source part, a projection optical system projecting the light emitted from the optical modulation element, and a heat radiation mechanism radiating the heat generated from the light source part by ventilation inside a housing, and an optical path is formed on a vertical plane. The light source part is arranged upper than the projection optical system, the heat radiation mechanism sends air from the light source part to an exhaust port provided in the housing, and the illumination optical system and the projection optical system are arranged at positions deviated from a ventilation duct from the light source part to the exhaust port.
