The underside of the hull shape has a rectangular cross section groove running the length of the hull along the keel line. The depth and width of the groove is between 5 and 10% of the hull height and width and ducts the waterflow along a stabilised path. This provides longitudinal stability for the ship when it is moving through the water, or when at anchor in moving water. The system provides a similar stability as does an extended keel without increasing the draught of the hull.
|
