PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor capable of efficiently using an image memory by reducing an amount of image memory usage, an image processing method and a program implemented by a computer. SOLUTION: This image processor 10 is provided with the image memory 107 for storing image data, a DMAC (DMA controller) 104 for developing color image data in the image memory 107 for each YMCK component, a color image determination circuit 106 for sampling a pixel value from the image data developed in the image memory 107, applying color conversion processing to the sampled pixel value, calculating the color difference of the pixel value subjected to color conversion and determining that the image data are a monochrome image when the absolute value of the color difference of all sampled pixel values is not higher than a threshold, and a CPU 101 for releasing image data of YMC from the image memory 107 when the image data are determined to be the monochrome image.
