PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine provided with a displacement detection means for accurately detecting the displacement of a water tub so as not to cause abnormal vibrations or abnormal noise by the vibration of the water tub housing a rotary drum due to unbalance laundry or the like. SOLUTION: A displacement sensor 36 is disposed between the water tub and the bottom part of a washing machine case body and a displacement rod part 41 is moved back and forth inside a detection coil part 40 by the displacement of the water tub. The displacement rod part 41 is provided with a ferrite 42, and when it is moved inside three winding wires (coils) 61, 62 and 63 provided at the detection coil part 40, signal output in which excitation signals impressed to one primary winding wire 61 are excited from two secondary winding wires 62 and 63 is changed and thus water tub displacement information is obtained from a voltage change which has the processed signal output. The adjustment of the reference position of the displacement rod part 41 to the detection coil part 40 is easily executed by the rotation of a nut 79 holding a coil body 57 fitted to a cylinder body 58.
