PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a helical tape system in which a TB class data storage can be realized by using a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: The helical tape system 1 reproduces a signal by GMR heads (reproducing heads) 12a, 12b by using a helical scan method from the magnetic tape 3 having a magnetic layer formed by an oblique vapor deposition on a long non-magnetic support. The system is characterized in that track widths of the GMR heads 12a, 12b are≥0.5μm and≤0.8μm; distances between shields are≥0.13μm and≤0.145μm; and the sensitivity is≥1,862μVp-p.
