PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating film testing method and a coating film testing apparatus where a coating film is more easily tested. SOLUTION: The coating film testing method is provided with: a step S1 where a subject 41 coated with a coating film comprising a fluorescent material, when being irradiated with excitation light, which emits fluorescence having a wavelength different from that of the excitation light is irradiated with the excitation light; and a step S2 where the coating film is tested based on the fluorescence generated from the coating film by the irradiation with the excitation light. By the coating film testing method, the defect of the coating film caused by a coating material thereof can be more easily discovered, and the testing can be performed more rapidly than SST (salt water spray testing).
