<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser device capable of preventing an adverse effect on the recording-reproduction characteristics of the information of an optical disk and an optical pickup device having the semiconductor laser device. <P>SOLUTION: The semiconductor laser device 100 has a thin metal plate 101 with a loading surface 101a, and an LD chip 102 with front end faces 102a emitting laser beams.
