Boot systems and methods. The system comprises a memory, a block storage device, and a boot loader. The block storage device stores at least an executable image, such as an operating system image, and a boot info file recording at least a location of the executable image in the block storage device, a length of the executable image, and a starting location of the executable image to be written to the memory. When the embedded system boots, the boot loader reads the boot info file, reads the executable image from the block storage device according to the location of the executable image in the block storage device and the length of the executable image, and writes the executable image to the memory from the starting location.
