PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a microcapsule, in which a water-soluble or water-decomposable substance can be involved and which has high water resistance, without using an organic solvent and without deteriorating a working environment. SOLUTION: This method for producing the microcapsule comprises the steps of: preparing a liquid capsule composition containing a water-soluble or water-decomposable core substance, a hydrophobic polymerizable substance and a polymerization initiator for polymerizing the hydrophobic polymerizable substance; emulsifying the prepared liquid capsule composition in an aqueous medium; and polymerizing the emulsified liquid capsule composition in the aqueous medium. The expression: dp/L≥1 is satisfied, wherein dp is the diameter (μm) of the liquid capsule composition obtained by emulsifying the liquid capsule composition in the aqueous medium; L is the moving distance per unit of time (m/second) of the core substance in the emulsified liquid capsule composition.
