PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system with its image actively used by a driver and a navigation method. SOLUTION: When a driver selects a building shown in a picture image displayed on a display part 7, a POI information acquisition part 110 identifies the selected building, based on the position of an own vehicle, the direction of the own vehicle, the photographing direction of a camera 25 relative to the direction of the own vehicle at the time of photographing, and map data, included in additional information associated with picture image data. The acquisition part 110 acquires POI information on the building from map data or from a server set up on a prescribed network. The POI information acquired is displayed on the display part 7. Further, it is also possible to automatically set a place, where a picture image is taken, as a destination, through the driver's selection on the picture image displayed on the display part 7.
