PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block type universal joint, maintaining stable performance over a long period of time even under the severe condition of a driving system or the like of a rolling machine. SOLUTION: In this block type universal joint, a key part 31 is integrally formed in the bearing cup 3 supporting a trunnion 11 of a cross shaft 1, and with the key part 31 fitted in a key groove 41 of a yoke 4, the bearing cup 3 is joined and fixed to the yoke 4 by a bolt 5. In this case, WC-Ni-Cr thermal spray coating 6 is formed on both sides of the key part 31, whereby the corrosion resistance of the key part 31 is improved, and even if the universal joint is used in the driving system of the rolling machine or the like over a long period of time, the occurrence of a gap to the keyway 41 due to corrosion of the key part 31 can be prevented, the bearing life is improved, and the application of excessive bending load to a bolt 5 is prevented to maintain stable performance over a long period of time.
