PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acetylene polymer ensuring solubility and having a stable one-handed helical structure without limiting uses. SOLUTION: The acetylene polymer contains a constituent unit represented by formula (I) (wherein, R is a substituent having an asymmetric carbon in which the atom directly bound to the carbon C<SP>1</SP>is carbon; and n is an integer of≥1). In the acetylene polymer, the rotation barrier (ΔE<SB>rot</SB>) in a bond of the carbon C<SP>1</SP>in the main chain terminal to the side chain R in formula (II) is≥30 kJ/mol.
