PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flowrate measurement method and a flowrate measuring apparatus for a molten metal allowing the measurement of the flowrate of a molten metal accurately free of the influence from the changes in the magnetic circuit resistance surrounding an exciting coil, even if there is a magnetic body nearby. SOLUTION: The flowrate measurement method and the flowrate measurement apparatus for a molten metal includes a vertical magnetic field excitation process for applying a vertical magnetic field to the surface of the molten metal substantially vertically, a vertical magnetic field detection process for detecting the vertical magnetic field, a parallel magnetic field detection process for detecting a magnetic field substantially parallel to the surface of the molten metal, and a process for calculating the ratio of the detected value of the vertical magnetic field to the detected value of the parallel magnetic field, and calculating the flowrate of the molten metal using the ratio.
