A digital camera with a detachable display panel that is usable as a remote controller and a method of operating the digital camera are provided. The digital camera includes ( 1 ) a camera body to photograph a subject, generate and process a photographed image of the subject; ( 2 ) a display panel that is detachable from the camera body and capable of remotely operating the camera body and displaying the photographed image; and ( 3 ) a coupling means to combine or separate the camera body and the display panel, wherein the camera body and the display panel communicate wirelessly to each other when separated.
