<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform exhaust gas cleaning regardless of an exhaust gas temperature when an oxygen sucking/releasing material is used in exhaust gas cleaning. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for cleaning the exhaust gas is used, which is provided with an active component comprising at least one kind of metal of noble metal and transition metal; an NOx occulusion material for sucking/releasing a nitrogen oxide according to a peripheral concentration of nitrogen oxide; and a compound represented by A<SB>2</SB>O<SB>2</SB>SO<SB>4</SB>and/or A<SB>2</SB>O<SB>2</SB>S (A is rare earth element). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
