Prestressed concrete structural beam - contains cable anchorage devices which transfer tension from inside to outside of beam

The prestressed concrete beam contains anchorage devices disposed on e.g. one side of the beam each of which receives at least one prestressed cable. Sheaths secured to the core of the beam guide the beam guide the prestressed cables and reduce the prestressed effect along the length of the beam end. The sheaths are pref. curved to prevent shearing of the cables. The beam transfers the prestressed effect from the inside to the outside of the beam allowing e.g. reinforcement to be introduced or repairs to be carried out.
