PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image reader which is not broken like glass though it is thin and can approximately uniformize spectral characteristics irrespective of the angle of a field of an image formation lens by using a macromolecule multilayer film in a spectral characteristic adjustment means. SOLUTION: In the image reader which forms the image of the image information of an original 11 illuminated with a light beam emitted from an illumination means 13 on the surface of a reading means 17 by an image formation optical system 15 and reads the image information of the original, the image reader is provided with the spectral characteristic adjustment means 16 having a macromolecule multilayer film filer having a function for reflecting or transmitting a light beam with a specific wavelength among light beams emitted from the illumination means in an optical path.
