PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication terminal and method for reducing the occurrence of a burst error as less as possible even when a state of a transmission path is estimated in mistake or the state of the transmission path is deteriorated after the estimation. SOLUTION: The communication method receives a packet, uses the received packet to estimate a state of a transmission path of the packet, selects a first modulation system wherein an allocated number of bits per 1 symbol is higher than that of a pre-designated modulation system among a plurality of modulation systems provided in advance when the state of the transmission path satisfies a first modulation system revision criterion, or selects a second modulation system wherein the allocated number of bits per 1 symbol is lower than that of the pre-designated modulation system among a plurality of the modulation systems when the state of the transmission path satisfies a second modulation system revision criterion, and modulates the packet by the first or second modulation system as to the packet satisfying an application condition provided in advance.
