A collapsible steering column assembly (50) includes a first member (22) configured to be connected to a vehicle frame (6) and a second member (30) coupled with the steering column (4, 7). At least one projection (40) extends between the first and second members and is connected to one of the first member (22) or the second member (30). The projection (40) is received in an aperture (38) of the other of the first member or the second member. Upon collapse of the steering column, at least one of the projection (40) and the aperture (38) deforms during movement of the projection relative to the aperture to absorb collapse energy.
