PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which is made longer in lifetime by reducing approach force. SOLUTION: The fixing device comprises a rotating body for fixing an image on a recording material in a nip part; a sliding member provided freely slidably on the inside of the rotating body; a lubricant reducing the friction force between the sliding member and the rotating body; a driving means for driving the sliding member; a heating means for heating the rotating body; and a control means for controlling the electric power to be supplied to the heating means. The fixing device is so constituted that the supply electric power to the heating means is gradually increased in correspondence to the driving speed while the driving speed of the rotating body is gradually increased when the stop state is shifted to a fixable state.
