<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus, an image processing method, and a digital camera capable of easily reducing a data amount of an image while maintaining the image quality identifiable of a symbol represented by the image. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is provided with: an input means for receiving an image; a compression means for irreversibly compressing the image depending on a compression condition; an expansion means for expanding the image subjected to the irreversibly compression; a region setting means for setting a region for representing the symbol of the expanded image as a discrimination object region; and an optimum condition particularizing means for particularizing an optimum compression condition on the basis of the sharpness of the discrimination object region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
