<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of speedily and precisely measuring the available bandwidth of a network. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of periodic time-stamp packets are transmitted to a communications apparatus of a receiver side with a testing transmission rate (R) set currently, and the variation trend of the transmission delay time difference between the time-stamp packets is evaluated, based on the respective times at which the time-stamp packets are received by the communications apparatus of the receiver side. If the transmission delay time difference is not included within a predetermined stable range and shows an increasing trend, evaluation is repeated after the R value is changed to a reduced one. If the transmission delay time difference is not included within the predetermined stable range and shows a decreasing trend, evaluation is repeated after the R value is changed to an increased one. As a result of such processing, if the transmission delay time difference is included within the stable range, the testing transmission rate currently set is determined to be the available bandwidth. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
