PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance image quality of a print image as much as possible in a sublimation thermal transfer printer. SOLUTION: The sublimation thermal transfer printer comprises print heads 11, 12 and 13 for forming an image on an image forming object member PP by heating an ink sheet 21 by means of a thermal head 24, and a print controller for controlling the thermal head 24 based on inputted image data. The print controller is arranged to set the maximum allowable density of an image at least in two stages under such a state as the maximum allowable density of an image on the side of large size becomes lower than that of an image on the side of small size based on the image size in the carrying direction of the image forming object member PP.
