The free-falling winch comprises a brake motor (17) which is constructed as a braked hydraulic pump. A desired remainder cable tensile force is adjustable on the cable drum (10) over the hydraulic operating pressure of the brake motor. The brake motor and a brake side drum bearing part (26) form a pre-assembled unit (16). The unit can be mounted on the end face of the cable drum which lies opposite the drive motor (3).
