ENDOSCOPE

An endoscope which has good operating properties including such effect that the hardness of the inserting section can be easily changed, and which enables weight reduction of a curving mechanism for changing the shape of the bight. The endoscope comprises an inserting section to be inserted in a subject, an electrically conductive extensible member which allows the inserting section to longitudinally extend and contract and which extends and contracts depending on the state of application of voltage, and an electrode for applying a voltage from a power source to the electrically conductive extensible member.
