Fixing elements (20) for cylinder head and crankshaft bearings are anchored in channels (20f) cast onto the liner (20), the channels to run parallel to the cylinder center axis (14a) as cast onto wall (20b) and/or cylinder walls (20a). Preferably four channels are equi-spaced round center axis (14a) and the channels are tied to the casing wall (20b). Tapped bores (32) run clear of the water chambers (20c) and the channels are ribbed to make positive joins during casting.
