In the auxiliary operating motors in vehicles, numerous varieties of motors have been used hitherto, namely single-phase series motors, direct current motors, single-phase and three-phase asynchronous motors. With a view to minimising the expenditure on maintenance, asynchronous motors are often preferred. However, special operating conditions often have to be taken account of so that these motors have to be specially produced which is often expensive and more difficult than if normal industrial motors can be used. The proposed auxiliary operating concept essentially comprises a single-armature transformer (1) with power converter control devices. The three-phase alternating voltage and its frequency can be fixed in such a way (for example 220 V, 380 V, 440 V, 50 Hz, 60 Hz) that normal motors can be used. For systems with back-up ventilation, the voltage and frequency can be adapted and varied in accordance with the operating conditions. The supply of power to the transformer can be designed for any current system (also for more than one system). <IMAGE>
