PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glossiness discrimination method capable of stably discriminating glossiness regardless of the magnitude of the curvature of a columnar curved surface, the roughness of surface processing or surface contamination even if there is positional fluctuations between a detector and an inspection target at every inspection target, and a glossiness discriminator. SOLUTION: The glossiness discriminator is equipped with floodlight projection means 2, 3a and 1 for projecting light on the surface of the inspection target W and detection means 1, 3b and 2 for detecting the quantities of the reflected light from the surface of the inspection target W on which light is projected by the floodlight projection means 2, 3a and 1 and the surface glossinesses of the inspection target W are discriminated on the basis of the quantities of light detected by the detection means 1, 3b and 2.
