Device and process for washing a mop

The floor cleaning device designed as a sponge cloth (3) attached to a rectangular base (2) and operated with a stick-shaped handle is cleaned by inserting the base (2) into a water-filled container. A button is pressed when the base (2) is moved across it, activating several spraying nozzles supplied with water and cleansing fluid by a battery operated pump. The base (2) is then guided through the space between rotating drums for the removal of the fluid. The nozzles are arranged in order to dispense a higher amount of cleansing substance onto the usually heavier soiled outer areas (26) of the sponge (3).
