METHOD TO ASSESS AND SELECT SOWS

A method of assessing and selecting sows includes determining the selection criterion according to the maternal behaviour in the sucking period. For the first week of the lactation the speed and character of lowering the trunk on the floor are assessed. To reproduce a herd, the sows, which have a smooth type of lowering the trunk on the floor, are selected, and the animals of jerky and mixed type are rejected.
