A method and device for controlling a wiper, capable of stabilizing a wiping rhythm of a wiper while performing required wiping effect and capable of smoothly dealing with a change in rainfall conditions. The method of controlling a wiper has a step of detecting an adhesion cycle of raindrops adhering on a detection surface; determining, based on the detected raindrop adhesion cycle, a current adhesion cycle that is the base for determining interval time of the wiper; determining interval time based on the current adhesion cycle; detecting a raindrop adhesion cycle shorter than the current adhesion cycle; changing the current adhesion cycle, when a raindrop adhesion cycle shorter than the current adhesion cycle is detected for a predetermined number of times, to a shorter adhesion cycle; and determining interval time of the wiper based on the changed current adhesion cycle.
