PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical sensor satisfying both of successful accuracy and response, and also to provide a distance measuring method. SOLUTION: By presetting a reference distance to be a measurement reference, it is judged whether a distance to an object is shorter or farther than the reference distance. By repeating the judgment process with the gradually switched reference distance to narrow down the existence region of the object, the distance to the object is measured. By this process, a judgment result with sufficient accuracy is obtained, without sampling overall light-receiving signals in detail. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
