<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection system for increasing the reliability of a packet network and an interface converting device to be used for the protection system, in a network using an interface converting device for encapsulating a synchronizing transfer signal, such as TDM and STM through packet transmission protocol, and for carrying out circuit emulation. <P>SOLUTION: In this protection system, an interface-converting device for converting a synchronizing transfer signal into a packet signal is configured to include switching information to be addited, after multiplexing a TDM signal, and to apply the address header of a packet network; to provide a pair of current and preliminary ports at the packet network side port of the interface converting device; and to construct a path transmission path between opposite interface converting devices.
