PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To handle telephone sets placed respectively at a plurality of geographically distant sites as an extension telephone set of one extension telephone system. SOLUTION: This extension system has a PBX 1 and a plurality of remote instruments 5 connected to the PBX 1 via an IP network 7. The remote instrument 5 stores at least one telephone set 3. In addition, the remote instrument 5 receives an IP packet transmitted from the PBX 1, extracts a call signal from the IP packet, transmits it to a transmitting destination of the call signal, makes the call signal received from the telephone set 3 stored by itself be the IP packet and transmits the IP packet to the PBX 1. The PBX 1 changes a destination of the IP packet received from the remote instrument 5 to a remote instrument 5 which stores the transmitting destination of the call signal stored in the IP packet for transmission.
