PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set the start time of a term of validity of an electronic certificate to the actual use start time of a client apparatus in a server client system which defines the term of validity of the electronic certificate as a period of service provision. SOLUTION: A certificate issuing station 10 issues a plurality of certificates having different start times of the period of validity. An MFP production part 12 stores the plurality of issued certificates in an electronic certificate spool of an MFP 18. A certificate management part of the MFP 18 retrieves a certificate having the start time of the period of validity, which coincides with the date when a web service 14 will be first accessed, from the spool and uses the obtained certificate to access the web service 14. Unused certificates are deleted from the spool.The certificate issuing station 10 invalidates the unused certificates. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
