PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a footstep movement detection device of a passenger conveyor reduced in the occurrence of a detection error which can be easily mounted to an existing passenger conveyor and detect an abnormality when a footstep is unexpectedly accelerated or decelerated due to a certain influence. SOLUTION: The footstep movement detection device is equipped with a detector and a detection body. The detector 21 is provided in the vicinity of a footstep driving wheel 10 winding an endless footstep chain 9 connecting a plurality of footsteps 8 or rotating members 5, 11 coaxially mounted and fixed to the rotating shaft of the footstep driving wheel. The detector 21 detects rotation movement in the footstep driving wheel 10 or the rotating members 5, 11.
