PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of a difference between a pointer stop position after a step-out reset process for backlash of reduction gear mechanism and a stop position after regular controlling, in the instrument in which the output of a stepping motor is transmitted to a pointer via a reduction gear mechanism. SOLUTION: The step-out reset process is carried out as follows: the stepping motor is driven to zero (reversing direction), from the rotation of the pointer 4 is stopped at the position of the stopper state (c), the stepping motor is driven toward leaving zero direction (positive rotational direction) of the pointer, and after driving the pointer 4 upward further from zero position of the scale at least by the size of the backlash (d), the stepping motor is driven toward returning in zero direction (reverse rotational direction) of the pointer, thereby the pointer 4 is returned to the zero point.
