The system has a function module (13A) to control clipping limit that is provided for an output signal of a sensor (13). The module provides a signal that replaces the sensor signal, which is truncated by clipping when the sensor signal reaches a clipping limit. A time limit is provided for the provided signal. The module is integrated in a control unit, and the functions of the module are realized through a computing program. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a safety system for passengers of a vehicle.
