<p>A hoist of an elevator, comprising a hoist body having a motor and a rotating shaft rotated by the motor. A drive sheave rotatable integrally with the rotating shaft is fixed to the rotating shaft. The drive sheave comprises an annular part for wrapping main ropes on the outer peripheral part thereof. A brake device is installed on the inside of the annular part. The brake device comprises a braking member allowed to come into contact with and separated from the inner peripheral surface of the annular part and a displacement device displacing the braking member.</p>
