PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a single crystal, which can smoothly pull and grow the single crystal and can completely prevent the fall of the single crystal, so that the high-quality single crystal can be surely obtained. SOLUTION: The diameter of a seed crystal 9 is measured continuously while the seed crystal is pulled. When the measured value reaches a predetermined limit value, the device determines that the seed crystal section cannot sustain its own weight if the pulling continues, and stops the pulling.
