PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging apparatus preventing occurrence of image failure by a fact that signal charge is left. SOLUTION: A method for driving the solid-state imaging apparatus has: a semiconductor board which demarcates a two-dimensional surface; many photoelectric transducers arranged like a matrix for over a plurality of lines and plurality of columns in a light receiving area of the semiconductor board; a vertical charge transfer device comprising a plurality of vertical charge transfer channels arranged in the vertical direction among lines of each photoelectric transducers and a plurality of transfer electrodes formed on an upper part of the vertical charge transfer channels and including a plurality of transfer electrodes arranged in the horizontal direction; a reading part which corresponds to each of the plurality of photoelectric transducers and reads signal charges accumulated in the corresponding photoelectric transducers in the vertical charge transfer channel adjacent in the column direction; and a horizontal charge transfer device which transfers the signal charges by the vertical charge transfer device in the horizontal direction. The method is characterized in that the signal charges are transferred by providing a line for transferring an empty signal to the upstream side in the vertical direction of each line for transferring the signal charges when the signal charges are transferred by the vertical charge transfer device.
