An illumination system (10) comprising a light source (12) that emits light (22) of a first sense and a second sense. The illumination system (10) also comprises a collimator (14) that collimates light (22) from the light source (12) along an optical axis (24) and within a maximum angle (27) with respect to the optical axis (24). The illumination system (10) further comprises a filter (16) that reflects light of the first sense, the filter positioned at an angle other than normal to the optical axis (24) and other than 45 degrees from the optical axis (24). Further, the illumination system (10) also comprises an optical system (18) positioned along the optical axis (24) to accept light that passes through the filter (16) and transmits the portion of the light within the maximum angle (27).
