ALKENE POLYMERIZATION USING BETA-KETOIMINATO METAL COMPLEXES

Group (IV) and (X) metal complexes with ketoiminate ligands are prepared by deprotonation of a ketoimine ligand followed by reaction with the appropriate metal halide. In preferred cases, the compounds are titanium (IV), zirconium (IV) and hafnium (IV), preferred cases, the compounds are titanium (IV), zirconium (IV) and hafnium (IV) complexes with (arylimino-alkyl)-spiro[4,5]decan-6-one ligands. The compounds are useful as catalysts for polymerizing ethylene, C<SUB>3</SUB>-C<SUB>10</SUB>-alpha olefins and C<SUB>4</SUB>-C<SUB>10</SUB> cyclic alkenes and for copolymerizing ethylene with comonomers.
