A camera-equipped cellular phone (1) effects character recognition processing on data of an image taken by a camera unit (3). More specifically, the data of the image taken by the camera unit (3) is stored in a work memory (4), and control unit (2) executes the character recognition processing. Character information being a result of the character recognition processing is temporarily stored in the work memory (4) in a fashion related to a type of a character. The work memory (4) can store a plurality of character information items related to the types of the characters, and the camera-equipped cellular phone (1) can collectively store the plurality of character information items as phone book data of a single person.
