The stator of an interrupter type motor includes salient poles at least some of which include magnet elements eg poles C,D, the drive winding L1 being powered by pulses so as to overcome the magnetic influence of these poles at the appropriate timing so that the pm rotor 50 rotates in response alternately to the magnetic field generated by the winding and that of the magnetic stator poles when the winding is de-energised. A drive circuit comprises a starting circuit 710, a control circuit 720 and a voltage detection device 730 which detects an induced signal in the sensing winding L2, which winding generates alternately forward and reverse voltage as the rotor rotates. The drive circuit is such that if the motor stalls then the drive current is cut off. Various laminated salient stator pole structures are disclosed along with materials, the magnet element comprising laminations associated with magnetic material laminations or non magnetic material laminations or alternatively the magnet poles may be a single lamination. (Figs 3,4,6). Various motor configurations are disclosed. The rotor may be external or internal. |
