A safety system (of eg. a blender or shredder) for permitting a motor to drive an implement 80 within a container / goblet / jar 100, the system comprising a detent member rotatable with the motor / implement 80, and a trapping member having means constraining it against rotation, said detent and trapping members having a first engaged position and means 140 urging said members into said position, and a second disengaged position which is assumed when the goblet 100 is correctly placed to contain the implement 80. The first and second positions are spaced apart in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the motor. The goblet 100 may be secured in place via screw thread means or bayonet fixtures, and thereby moves the members into the second disengaged position. The detent and trapping members may comprise teeth 50 / sockets 130. The urging means is a preferably a spring 140. |
