Described are a machine and a method for dispensing demijohns containing liquid (mainly beverages), which provides a self-service system for dispensing liquid by means of the operation of electromecanical and electronical elements. The system comprises the following steps: 1) receiving an empty demijohn; 2) verifying the correct demijohn information (Brand and/or Type); 3) receiving the correct import including only the liquid, or 4) the correct import including both the liquid and the demijohn; 5) delivering the refilled demijohn. The dispensing device warranties the following two aspects: The hygiene of the container since it is subjected to an industrial wash, and the purity and quality of the product since the demijohn is refilled in the plant.
