<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional overtopping wave detecting apparatus has incorrectly detected moving factors (moving objects such as vehicles, humans, and bicycles, their shadows, and vehicles' light) other than overtopping waves when they enter a monitoring area. <P>SOLUTION: This overtopping wave detecting apparatus is provided with an imaging part for imaging images of an area for monitoring overtopping waves; a controller for controlling the imaging part; a frame memory for storing image data from the imaging part; a wave contour shape extracting part for extracting the contour shape of waves at the beach from the image data; and an overtopping wave determining part for determining the occurrence of overtopping waves on the basis of changes in the contour shape of waves extracted at the wave contour shape extracting part. It is thereby possible to detect the shape at the beach which directly affects the determination of overtopping waves and implement the overtopping wave detecting apparatus which hardly performs incorrect detection and is highly reliable. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
