PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for range dependent weighting in ultrasonic imaging. SOLUTION: The system includes a transducer array, a data collection system, and an imaging processor. The transducer array receives a first ultrasonic beam having a first focal depth. The data collection system receives a first ultrasonic imaging signal from the transducer array. This first signal includes first image data based on at least the first ultrasonic beam. The imaging processor combines a first data contribution from the first image data with at least second image data from a second ultrasonic imaging signal to create a spatially compounded image.
