PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binocular vision apparatus capable of accurately measuring distances even in the case that an angle of field is wide. SOLUTION: Since distortions depend on an angle of incidenceθonto a lens system, a distortion V is expressed by V=(r-r<SB>0</SB>)/r<SB>0</SB>when a point which should form an image at a point separated from an optical axis by r<SB>0</SB>without distortions has formed an image at a point separated from the optical axis by r. When the distortion V is known on the basis of this relation, it is possible to correct the distortion by image processing which converts the point which has formed the image at the point separated from the optical axis by r, on the line connecting the optical axis to the point, into a point which forms an image at a point separated from the optical axis by r/(1+V). It is thereby possible to correct an image as shown in (a) when a group of parallel lines which intersect one another at right angles are imaged into an image as shown in (b).
